Transform Your Mindset: Think Like Christ and Change Your Life

Published August 6, 2024

One of my favorite days of the year as a kid, was the last day of school. It didn’t matter what school year I had just completed, the last day was absolutely the best!

When I walked out the door after my last class, it was as if the whole world shifted. The sun was brighter. The grass was greener. And my first breath of freedom smelled so sweet!

I like to call this moment the “school’s out for summer” revelation. It was when I first realized that revelation could be absolutely life changing.

Because you can’t go back to the same mindset or way of being after you experience those moments.

As adults, we seek revelation every single day. We are constantly learning new information, and trying to incorporate those new thoughts into our current mindset. And sometimes, we experience revelation in the moment of merging everything together.

But often we don’t experience any new green grass moments. Because we are stuck in our human minds. Stuck in the same way of thinking, based on our life experiences to date. And even worse, we often don’t know how to change our patterns, or we can’t see the pattern right in front of our faces.

We suffer from the “we’ve always done it this way” method of problem solving, and thinking about everything around us. And it isn’t really our fault, because at that moment, we don’t know any other way of approaching a problem or situation.

The Bible gives us countless examples of how to think with the mind of Christ, the ultimate human mind renewal method. Thinking like Christ gives us access to the options and alternatives that Christ possessed. The priority of “love others first” over everything else. Plus, thinking like Christ is a constant fueling from the Holy Spirit.

We can look to three specific Bible passages to make this idea more clear:

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes. -Romans 12:2

Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. -Philippians 4:8

We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One. -2 Corinthians 10:5

I think the passage from Romans is the most helpful in explaining how we are to think with the mind of Christ. Thinking with the mind of Christ is a complete transformation, compared with how we currently approach each day.

Being able to discern God’s will helps us to understand the right choices to make. The end of this verse states the goal that we all have – to live a beautiful life, perfect in His eyes.

Visualize with me for a moment – what would your life look like as the beautiful life perfect in God’s eyes?

Where are you? What are you doing? How do you feel?

When we begin to truly adopt the mind of Christ, we are literally transformed from the inside out. We get that “school’s out” feeling every single day!
