One of the most aggravating things about getting older is when you hear something, and it triggers a memory, except you can’t remember the exact details. It seems like the memory, or the name, or the detail, is right on the tip of your tongue. But it is fuzzy, and you can’t quite make it out, but you absolutely know something is missing!
Most of the time, at some point we are able to recall that fuzzy memory. I have to admit – since I reached the age of 40, it has happened more often to me! I can definitely identify with how frustrating this is!
When people start talking about Jesus and abundance in the same sentence, it seems like it should be so simple. But most people either get it way wrong, discount the possibility entirely, or just can’t seem to connect the dots. Something is missing.
The great thing about understanding the relationship between your faith in Jesus, and receiving abundance in all areas of your life is that once you make the connection, it is yours forever. You don’t need to question it or challenge it or worry about it ever again.
Abundance is often reduced to just money. But in the Bible, abundance is so much more. There is spiritual abundance – growing in faith and spiritual gifts. Emotional abundance, which is experiencing peace, joy, and contentment. Relational abundance, or building strong, loving relationships. And material abundance, or receiving everything that you need and provision for your purpose.
My favorite verse in the Bible that references Jesus’ perspective on abundance is from John 10:10, “A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!” (TPT).
I love how Jesus gives us such a simple comparison to make his point. Comparing theft with abundance is the perfect contrast to help us understand what abundance truly is – more than we expect, receiving everything, and not just our needs but receiving until we overflow! What an incredible gift!
Plus, this isn’t a gift that is forced upon us. Rather, we are given the choice to believe, accept Him as our savior, and begin the journey of an intimate daily relationship with Him.
Opening the door to let Jesus into our hearts is the first step. As we yield more and more of our life to his care, more doors begin to open. And that is the point where deep healing begins.
Struggling with that door yourself? Or do you need a bit of help finding the door itself?
